Thanksgiving, Part 4

Thanksgiving!

Not everyone gets to come home for the holiday. Not everyone gets to enjoy a home cooked meal, dessert and the hugs and laughter of family.  In honor of those willing to give up their time so we can have ours, why don't design a military inspired outfit for Thanksgiving??  Yesterday we talked about how to have an edgy military look.  Maybe you're not into edgy, but into sophisticated.  Maybe your Thanksgiving event is a more formal affair.  Never fear!  We've got an idea for you too!

The Look: Military Polish

You are looking for a less themed look.  To do a polished military you want to take a more subtle approach. Avoid anything overly done.  No camo, no braids, no bars...nothing.  Focus on buttons.  Focus on dome buttons.  These double breasted accents are just the touch you need.  They are sophisticated without being stuffy, interesting with out being totally unusually, military inspired without being a military uniform.  If you live someplace cold, feel free to start with a smashing coat with two rows of buttons.  If you live someplace only cold when the AC is on high, look for a skirt or a vest which conveys the same design.  Boots with buttons are fun too, but they can start to look more Victorian than military.  Don't be afraid of that just aware.  Picking out an army green sheath dress might be just the way to go.  Green is a big color this season and Army green looks pretty on almost any skin tone.  Accent with gold jewelry.  Military is almost always about gold.  Don't pin a flag on yourself.  They can look more canned patriotic instead of Polished.  If you want some brooches go with a braid.  Braids are very military and very sophisticated. 

For this look avoid jeans and trousers.  You are going Military Polish - wear a dress or a skirt.  It just makes the look!
