Costume 101: SteamPunk 2

SteamPunk!
So, it's time for the annual Costume Party at work or with friends.  Your budget isn't as roomy as usually, but you still want to do something a little different.
Try SteamPunk!
Look back at yesterday's post to get a feel for this look, or Google it to get some great ideas.  Etsy has a wonderful selection of goggles for anything from $20 on up!
What do you do though, after the Costume Party?
The lack of wiggle room in the budget requires you to think beyond just the wear-ability to tonight's gig.
Steampunk is the perfect costume to blend into your everyday wear because it is so elegant.  You may not wear the goggles and top hat to work, but you could wear the bomber jacket.  You could easily make a suit out of the pinstriped vest and trousers.  Heels with a few gears on them are a fun statement piece for girl's night out along with any other SteamPunk jewelry like cuffs and rings!  A pair of spectators for the party can easily make a pair of black trousers something unique.  The ruffled blouse or nautical inspired jacket you picked up works great with jeans for date night!  Cameo's add a hint of Victorian elegance to your brunch wear, while bicycle and octopus printed t-shirts are fun with boyfriend jeans.
Don't waste the opportunity to make a unique costume! Don't waste your money on things you can never wear again.  Once you get a feel for SteamPunk you will see it's influence in this fall's most trendy looks!
So get shopping and get to having fun!

Here is a great weekday SteamPunk look.  It could be easily broken up, or dressed up or down!

While you might not be comfortable wearing this out and about,
the components of this outfit could be added to your casual wear line with ease!
