We have decided that August will be the month to talk about consignment. So keep your browser set to Femme to learn not just how to consign, but what to expect when you consign, and how to consign most effectively. We will also talk about how consignment and fashion interact.
Day 1: Transition.
Femme is accepting fall and transitional items right now. We will take fall all the way through January, but what is transition exactly? How long can you bring it in?
Transition occurs in two months. August and February.
What is it?
It is the time for all those things you don't know what to do with: short sleeved turtlenecks and cashmere sweaters, heavy dark colored linens, cord and leather shorts and the like.
Now, let's talk about fall transitional items specifically and how Femme handles them.
Fabrics: Cashmere and wool are just fine now, but be smart about it. You are far more likely to sell a dark colored cotton top right now than you are a cashmere or wool. You may want to bring those in in mid to late September. If you have a short sleeved or sleeveless cashmere or wool tank, those are fine right now. Your heave wool coats? Please save them until we get at least our first cool front through. Linen in dark colors is acceptable in Texas through the end of August.
Patterns: Florals are a great transitional pattern. Think dark florals. We are not looking for tropical colors anymore, but flouncy florals in browns, golds, and greens are great here in Texas. They feel Fallish but aren't too hot. Plaids are great right now in light weight cottons or even flannel. Polka dots need to be stored until spring. If you have a wool and polka dot combo set it aside for spring transition in Feb.
Shoes: Think suedes, leathers, dark colors and closed toed. No more bright floral sandals or flip flops. Peep toes and suede sandals are great for transition!
Handbags: Out with the straw, in with the leather. Your transitional bags are going to be fun numbers like white suede, or a bright pink suede bag - winter material, summer color.
We hope this gives you a general idea about what we mean when we say we are accepting Transition. Join us tomorrow as we talk about what defines Fall as apposed to Winter items.
And remember, any time you aren't sure about it, bring it by and we'll let you know what is best!
