Constructing a Wardrobe #6: Trying On

We all dread it and we all have our own system for managing it. Some of us are super fast, some of us take our time. Some of us like to fill up a dressing room and then try on, others like to do one item at a time. Either way it is the hardest part of shopping and building a wardrobe. It is the moment of truth, when the clothes come off, and the new ones come on and you get to see yourself in something foreign and possibly uncomfortable.
What is the key, the secret?
Honestly...the key is doing it! You can never have a well polished, safe and working wardrobe if you don't try on before you buy. When you do it leaves you open to money wasted on things which don't fit. It also leaves open to morning wardrobe disasters when you go to wear your new treasure and it doesn't work at all like you envisioned.
Consignment...when you enjoy shopping consignment, trying on is even more important. You never know when something has been altered. You never know if the brands run true to size or even what that means anymore. You never know if knits have been blocked or pants nipped in just a bit. So take the time to try them on or at the minimum know how the brands you enjoy run.
So...how does trying on build a better wardrobe?
1) It saves you from bad purchases. It is wise and practical to try on so you don't spend your time and money on things which just waste them.
2) It expands your vision. Once you get into the dressing room outfits just start coming together. Options present themselves and fashion doors open. Trying on lets you get past the basics and start having fun with things. If your going to try on black trousers and white blouses you might as well grab that bold blue top and that bright yellow scarf and see what they do for you too!!
Femme serves chocolate and mints in all our dressing rooms to try and make the the Trying On Event a little bit easier. All of us are here to make suggestions and give an Honest opinion about how things look! We are here to serve you and make at least one part of your day fun and special
