Costume 101: Rocker Chic

It's only a few weeks until the big party night when ghost and ghouls come out to play.  With everyone on a tight budget wouldn't it be nice to know what you wear to a party you can wear again with your everyday wardrobe.  Be smart about the costume you pick out!  Last week we talked about SteamPunk.  We defined it and then told you how to blend it into your look.  This weekend lets talk about Rocker Chic.

Rock and roll is part of America.  From early 60's to the fun of the 80's, from heavy metal to light rock and every thing in between, we all love some rock and roll.  And it doesn't all have to be leather and metal studs!

Sharon Den Adel heads up the Dutch Symphonic Metal Band Within Temptation!  Her style ranges from very traditional Gothic to traditional Rocker.

Rocker Chic runs the spectrum from artist like Katy Perry and Florence and the Machine to metal bands with female vocalist like Withing Temptation and Evanecence to techno bands like Shiny Toy Guns.  They have front runners like Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett.  This is a really fun costume idea.  You can color your hair, wear wigs, dress in leather, go sexy, grungy, or just strange.  You can add fake tattoo sleeves to your arms or shamelessly show off your own.  You can go total strange, playful, or dangerous.

This type of costume calls for a lot of courage and creativity.  Just look at the type of strange things Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, and Lady Gaga have worn on stage, not to mention Modonna!  Seriously, feel free to go that strange if you want! It's time for fun!

If you want to incorporate the more feminine sides of rock and parts of pop, be inspired by Flo and others like her.  If you want to go all out, check out Amy Lee's outfits, Pink, Modonna and Joan Jett.   If you want to go more British Punk, look to the Techno bands for outfit ideas.  No matter your version of rock and roll, pick something that suits your real life.  Tomorrow we will talk about how to do this specifically.  For now, just define the artist you want to emulate and start collecting things for that look!
