Horses. Nothing communicates power, magnificence, and freedom like a horse. They have been captured in songs, art, music, poetry and prose since we first tamed these amazing creatures. They have captured the hearts of little girls and grown woman alike for ages and ages. I am no exception to the horse bug. As a little girl, I dreamed of having horses. In fact, I spent a fair amount of time morosely fearing I would grow up long before I got a horse, never considering that a grown woman could enjoy horses as much as a little girl.
I had horse pictures all over my room. My mom made me horse comforters, pillows and clothing. As soon as I could afford it, I purchased tees with horses on them.
Here I am walking into my thirties with no horses in sight. I have yet to purchase a horse and don't even have a place to ride regularly...but, I still dream! I still plan to own horses, even if I'm a little old lady when I get around to it. I have favorite breeds picked out, and point them out to my husband each time they grace the silver screen. (BTW: They're Friesians and Arabians)
Remember, ladies, dreaming is important. Dreams are important. In some ways, I think holding onto the dreams of childhood are more important than the plans we make as adults. What did you want to be when you grew up? Who were your childhood heroes? Mine, oddly enough were Annie Oakley, Amelia Earhart, Daniel Boone and the Hardy Boys. :-) Go figure.
How close did you come to every reaching your childhood dream? I may not have any horses yet, but I still collect pictures of them. I still love them. I may not get to solve crimes, explore a new Nation, get lost on a never explained adventure, or get to ride with Buffalo Bill. I do get to help women find great pieces of clothing, explore closets, and dream of flying on the back of a horse some day. I have plenty of adventures - some explained and some not!
Dreams are important.
Don't lose yours.
Look at your life and find the small ways who you once were is still who you are!
