The Coffee Shop Report

Abby here, with our first Coffee Shop Report! This weekly post is dedicated to the news of the fashion world. Trends, movies, TV shows, music, brands, labels and styles. All the things which influence the fashion industry. And I, Abby, your faithful blogger, will keep you up-to-date on what you need to know!

Lets talk about Fashion Star.
This TV shoe focuses on bringing the game-show elements of American Idol, The Voice, and others to the fashion world.  These 14 people design "ready to wear" pieces each week and one major retailer purchases their look, if they like it.  No purchase and they risk elimination.
At first, the show did not thrill me.  It seemed a bit hokey to be honest, a little forced and not enough fashion.  But, as the weeks have passed, some good and bad fashion stars have been removed, and the show has gotten a bit better.  We now have time to get to know the designers better.
Interest points, this is fashion to be worn now, not a fashion show.  The art side of fashion is greatly diminished for a "what will sell tomorrow" marketing strategy.  Each item the buyer purchases for their store it is available tomorrow!  What a great idea!  How fun!
It has been a unique experience to watch these people grow.  We have discussed which items we would have purchased for our own boutique, and which items would not sell at all.  It is interesting to see who agrees with us and who doesn't, from the purchasers standpoint.  You ask yourself: what did they see which we didn't?  What did we see that they didn't?
So...if you love fashion, watching this show is a creative process which sparks great conversation.  I think this show has a lot of potential and I hope they keep polishing it.

Let us know about your own Fashion Star Experience!
Have you purchased any of the clothing from these talented designers?
