The Look Book - Design Yourself

Taking in the beauty of the world around you is one thing, but turning that beauty into a fashion statement is a whole other ball game!
How do you take a love of snow and turn it into a look? How about a Monet painting or an inner farm girl? How do you wear yourself on your sleeve without looking frumpy or themed?
Here are three real life examples:
Customer 1:
"I love rain in the spring time, the gray with the deep fresh green. It makes me smile and ready to curl up in a warm blanket with a cup of coffee and a good book."
Answer: Easy enough, just add lots of gray and green to your wardrobe. Look for jewelry in silver with jade, malachite and bloodstone. Look for sweaters, cardis and wraps with paisley or floral patterns which tie in these colors. Try gray trousers or jeans to keep a hold of your rainy day blues.
Don't: Look for shirts with trees or rain patterns unless they are done by a designer and those types of things are generally featured for one season so they are a short lived investment. Try to stay away from themed nature looks and capture the colors palate instead.

Customer 2: "I grew up in Africa and love to wear animal print and African themed jewelry but feel like I might look silly."
Answer: You of all women should wear animal print with pride. Embrace your inner African and run with it. Even when Animal print is not the "hot" thing, you should still wear it.
Don't: Over do it. Limit yourself to one or two themed items. If you are wearing an animal print top, add pearls not animal shaped jewelry. If you want to wear the animal shaped jewelry, pair it with a tee and jeans. Just keep it understated or as your one statement piece.
Customer 3: "I'm an amateur photographer and I love anything to do with capturing life around me on film."
Answer: The fun way to express your love of photography is to look for jewelry with vintage inspired cameras. This lets you wear a camera but stay chic. Graphic tees with old fashioned cameras or photographs are also a good way to express your inner artist.
Don't: get too crazy with cameras. One charm on a necklace or key chain is fine but do not do sets or over the top charms. Now you have moved out of the realm of fashionably expressing yourself to just being cheesy. Avoid tees with people you know as the picture. Look for tops with vintage prints and patterns if you want to actually wear a picture.

Fashion is all about expressing yourself. Fashion is all about communicating to the world who you are and what you love. Find inspiration from the art, nature and people you see every day. With this attitude you will be amazed at how beautiful the world around you really is. Life will spark with passion and creativity. Don't let your clothing become something you just throw on without thinking about what they say about you!
